sharing the wealth

i won a couple of blog contests and just received my prizes. alisha had a drawing for some cute little bear stitch markers and for these beautiful earrings which she made. she claims her jewelry making skills are primitive, but i beg to differ. aren't they gorgeous?!

then christina had a "stalker" contest which i prefer to call "getting to know christina." "stalker" sounds horrible, doesn't it?
she sent me these:
a jar of sugar scrub to keep my hands soft and smooth for snag-free (too bad it's not for frog-free) knitting, some cute little stitch markers, and 82 yds of hand dyed hand spun merino art yarn (which christina spun).

here is a close-up of the yarn. isn't it pretty?

any suggestions for what to make with it?

i am excited about my three patterns for blue moon fiber arts. i am finally knitting myself a pair of socks that rock in one of these new patterns. i am a happy camper! so, i want to share some of that happiness.

would you like to win this?

it's a skein of socks that rock, light-weight in the semi-retired "foofoo" colorway

leave me a comment telling me why i should send this beautiful yarn to you. it doesn't have to be fancy. a just "because i want the yarn" comment will suffice!

and to make things more interesting, i will also be giving away this skein of tofutsies #787. you will get an entry for posting about my contest on your blog (leave me a comment that you did) and i will give you brownie points entries if someone tells me they came from your blog. brownie points entries will apply only for the tofutsies.

i will randomly select a name for each skein. deadline for entering is wednesday, october 3rd.

let the fun begin!!!

OMG, I love sock yarn contests.
Why I need STR, because I think Iam the last person on earth that hasn't tried this stuff :) I would really love to knit some fantastic socks with it. I will post about the contest on my blog tonight, please stop by and say hi!

Unknown said...

Nope, Laura up there is not the last person on earth to try STR! Me neither. I have a non-existent yarn budget these days - pity me! :)

I'm giving you a mention on the blog today Adrienne. As usual, love your knitting and your contests!

Thanks for running a contest ... I love contests.

I NEED that STR yarn because I am a recent convert to the colour pink, and being a new convert need a pair of socks to signify this major turning point in my life -- seriously, for 39 years, I hated pink (strong word, but the emotion I felt for the colour was that strong), and this summer, i started warming up to it, and now I LUV it (another strong emotion - but true) ... so you see, I need this yarn to show the major transformation in my life . Pick me for Foo Foo!

I will mention you when i blog tomorrow after work

Why I should win the STR - Because I have no way to order it online. I must only buy it if I were to travel to the US (I live in Canada) to a yarn store there that sells it. I cannot order online (no credit card, not all vendors would take a money order,) cost of money order and past exchange rates have made the STR a very luxury item for me to be able to buy it. I did try it once - I had an opportunity a couple years ago to make a trip to the US and I was able to buy a few skeins. I also was gifted one. But I LOVE STR yarns....and have no way to buy more without financing another trip - which I can't do. I can only dream of owning more....and hope to win a contest like yours :)

Nope. neither Laura nor Tracy is the last one to try this yarn. I haven't tried it yet either, I love pink as well. Hope you will pick me, but if not is okay too. It's nice to be so generous with your bounty.

I want to win the sock yarn for my 40th Birthday October 25th 2007.I had 6 surgeries 2 months ago and pink is a healing color and STR is a luxury.I would pet it and knit it up and call them my Birthday Socks there is no better gift for a knitter than sock yarn for their Birthday. The Tofutsies is in my favorite color green so I love them both and have never gotten any Tofutsies.Hugs Darcy Watts Airforce Wife Exstroardinaire

Hi, This is my first sock yarn contest. I just happened upon your site because of my recent membership to Townsend sock group. I absolutely love pink. I have 6 boys and 1 girl. Almost everything in my surroundings is camoflauge, camoflauge, camoflauge. I need pink in my life to keep me sane. I recently had a surgery that causes me to lie around for a bit so what better excuse to knit. Winning this yarn will most definately help my state of mind. Thanks. Shireen

I have always wanted to try the STR yarn - I thought a sock with a picot edge top would be cute in the pink. The Tofutse would be good for next summer.
Thanks for being so generous and giving.

Just because I want it... no, I don't take that from my students, so... use arguments, you're a grown up. Here I go:
- because it's impossible to STR yarn in the Netherlands, Amsterdam where I live
- because after all these years of courageously refusing to do something with pink and very pink now that I'm 50+ I yield: I love pink (may be because of my ballet past
- because, because... I will pick something to start a new contest to share the wealth!

lulubelle said...

You should give that yarn to me because a) I love Pinks and b) It's my birthday today so you should send it to me right now.

I'll post your contest on my blog....now

Oh, and give a brownie point entry to Miss Me, since I came here from her blog :)

I came here from Lesley's site, Yes I Knit, so hand over the brownie points for her, 'k? And I'd love to win the STR because I've never seen it around here in Ontario,Canada. And my sock yarn stash is looking a wee bit sad, as I've been knitting socks. Getting ready for winter, you know. And nobody could ever ever have too much sock yarn! And I had to pay $500 for car repairs yesterday and the dental surgeon is estimating over a thousand! So I can't spend money on sock yarn! Please enter me in the contest and don't forget Lesley's points, samm who enjoys your blog

ikkinlala said...

"Because I want the yarn" would be honest, but it wouldn't feel like a very good answer. A slightly better one: it gets pretty cold here in the winter, so I need lots of nice warm socks to keep my feet from freezing.

I've never tried STR either.

I have no idea what you could use the art yarn for (it's Friday afternoon and my brain is fried for the week), but it is indeed gorgeous.

Stacey said...

Add me to the group that hasn't tried STR yet. I really, really would love to have it because I've never tried it and so badly want too, plus I love the color pink. I started knitting socks in the spring and want to try some of the nicer yarns. Most of our money goes into fixing up our old farmhouse nowadays. I'm going to try to put a link to your site, I still have no idea how to do most things on blogger. Thanks for giving us all a chance to win.

I need the STR because I am so far behind the Pirate I don't know if it is even possible for me to catch up! (But you can help me on my quest!)

Myrthestiek said...

I love the yarn and just find out the fun of knitting socks. I've never ever won a contest; so maybe this will be the first time.

The brownie points are for Darcy Knotty Knitter, I read about this on her blog.

Alice said...

The STR skein looks so very pretty! Please... let me have it... Well, I've decided if I win this yarn, I will have a contest for some BFL yarn on my blog. What about that? :-)

Oh, and Darcy's blog pointed me to your blog.

You can't get STR yarn freely in the UK and have to order it via friends in the USA. I've got my Kiri shawl I did in STR on my blog htt:/susanstitches.livejournal.com

Anonymous said...

I LOVE your Gecko Eyes pattern!!! One of my all-time favorites. And of course, I love STR. You know the yarn is dyed right here in the Pacific Northwest, but that doesn't make it any easier to find locally, so of course, the skein is calling, calling, calling ...

Sue C said...

I would love to win some yarn because I can always use new sock yarn. I've never tried either of these sock yarns before. I love the colorways. Winning new yarn would surely get me out of my slump and get me started knitting some new socks. I've posted about your contest on my blog too!

Great contest and great blog. I'd use the pink STR for special socks for my sister. She's undergoing chemo for BC. All good wishes and positive vibes gratefully accepted!

I would LOVE to win a skein on this yarn, and why? Well, my birthday is October 3rd, and my dh never remembers it!

Hi, I saw your note on the Townsend KAL. I feel that many of these others "deserve" the yarn more than I, I'm another that has never tried it. Also I'm gearing up to walk in my second Breast Cancer 3-Day which of course is all about the pink, so I'd love to knit something for the weekend, maybe some socks to wear after we're done for the day.

Dorothy said...

I love pink. I want to learn to knit socks, and I would love to knit with yarn I love.

Katie from http://knitmetotheendoftime.blogspot.com/ sent me!

Because my youngest granddaughter, Shelby-Lynne (5) would love to have her Grammie knit her a pair of socks in that color.

Laura's not alone--I am dying to try STR! I'll post about the contest on my blog tonight ... stop by when you get a chance! Maybe soon I will have the nerve to try my own contest.

I would love to use this yarn for some socks for myself! It is my favorite color combination- besides which I love the name. I always sang "Bunny Foo Foo" with my kids and we made up silly nonsense as we went along; the socks would remind me of the simpler times when they (and I!) were young and I still had all my babies. I don't have a blog because of my very slow and unreliable dial-up connection, but I enjoy yours very much. Thank you.

Knitting Linguist said...

Wow -- cool contest. Anne (Knitting Sox Fan) sent me over here (Tofutsies brownie points for her!). I have to confess, I think other folks have better reasons than I to get the STR. I only want it because I've been knitting socks like crazy for my family lately, and it'd be fun to have some sock yarn just for me! (Also, turns out that if I knit short socks, I can get a pair for me AND for my younger daughter out of one skein -- stretches the yarn budget amazingly.) I'll be posting to my blog in a few minutes, and will be sure to send folks over! (Believe me, I would not sneer at winning the Tofusties!)

Hi and thank you for sharing your wealth. Good karma.

I would like to be considered as a STR contestant as I have been visiting their site for several days, but am not sure of the weight of yarn to order for socks- the light or medium weight. I would like to try both. Please consider my daughter for the tofusie as she is a vegan and a consumer of many things tofu!- :-) candace

Adrienne you must be the luckiest person on the planet. You are always winning yarn.

The reason that I should win yarn is that I am the unluckiest person on the planet. I never win yarn - okay I did win some Sol Joy once but that was SOOOO long ago. I have been wanting to try STR but I can't buy yarn for myself because I am buying yarn for holiday gifts. See what a noble, unselfish and worthy person I am. I will post a mention on my blog as soon as I leave here.

At the risk of sounding like a suck up, congrats on having Blue Moon feature your designs. I know they will be great. I have enjoyed the ones you have done for Judy. You really do have some wonderful designs. I hope you will post photos of your STR designs when you are allowed for those of us who are not in the STR club.

I would just love to try STR yarn. I think it would look absolutely fabulous in "cascading leaves" pattern or "lilac" pattern. You can't even find yarn like that up here in vermont. I will post about your contest on my blog. I don't think anyone reads mine though.

Woo-hoo, a sock contest! Yippee! Okay, I think you should send the yarn to me for two reasons 1) I've never knit with Blue Moon Fiber Arts, and I've drooled from afar, (and stopping the drooling is well worth sending yarn, hee hee!) and 2)I'm currently working on a sock in the toefootsies yarn, and I think I'm going to run just short of the big toe. Your color is the same as my sock! (Which I haven't been able to find at any of my lys!) Send the Yarn! Save my Toe!

Heather said...

Cool idea for a giveaway. Other then the fact that I would love free yarn I really want this one because I tried to buy it online and was too late. They retired it the day before I went to but the same colorway that you are giving away. How cool would that be if I won this hank?

Anonymous said...

I should have this yarn because... I am knitting my first pair of socks and they're for a swap so I definately need some STR (which I've never tried before) sock yarn to make socks for me! :-)

Oh, I got here from Knit Me to the End of Time

The Bullknitter said...

another Canuck here, Alberta Canada. I am a sock addict that has never knit STR. I came from Knit me to the end of time blog. I should win the contest because those socks remind me of Napoleon Ice Cream. They are yummy socks. I name all my socks (chocolate cough drop socks and sea socks, etc.) Those would be my Yummy Socks. I hope I win!

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to win the STR. I am another one of the "last on earths" to try STR. And my 4 year-old daughter's nickname is "little bunny foo-foo"!!! So the colorway is perfect! :-)

Hi! I love yarn and I love contests, so here I am. I also wanted to mention that i was reminded to come here and enter when I read Tabitha's blog (Tabitha Knits) - she is home with some sick children and deserves an extra vote in the contest if anyone does. If I get to updating my blog I will let you know so I can have another "ticket" but I am not sure I will get to do that any time soon.
