celebration time!

look at what arrived in the mail the other day...

it's the 2008 knitting pattern a day calendar

and look at june 6th (7th, & 8th!

IT'S ME!!!

so, don't you think it's time for a celebration contest?! tell me the one knitting related thing you hate to do. i hate finishing...seams, ends, etc. leave me a comment and i will randomly pick a winner for a skein of "TOFUTSIES" probably on monday.

as for "sos", i have finished one peony in tofutsies #733 but haven't started on the mate yet. i am knitting it with a gauge of 10 sts/inch (instead of 8.5sts/inch per the pattern) and really like the fabric much better. of course, i am using a size 0 to knit the sock! the mate is going to have to wait since i have been lured away by the siren call of some socks that rock...i have two new designs for blue moon fiber arts! gotta go knit!

Congratulations on your pattern!
I love finishing, but my least favourite part of knitting is motivation. I get caught up in a project and knit like mad on it for two weeks and then it's more like a chore.

Well ... I have to agree with you ... I hate weaving in ends!!! Another thing I don't care for is turning heels ... Not that it's a big deal ... but I so much more love knitting the leg and foot!

Yes, congrats!

I've got to admit to hating finishing the toes of socks with the kitchener stitch. I always have to do them several times to get them right and I always need to refer to a diagram. Maybe its because I don't knit socks often enough to stay in the groove.

Congrats on your pattern being included in next years calendar.

I hate seaming and sewing on buttons. In fact, I hate it so much that I find myself making things that don't require seaming or buttons.

Love your sock, congratulation on being part of the knitting pattern a day. I am working on my first pair of tofuties, wasn't that crazy about the yarn at first but I am loving the way it's knitting up

I love the knit. The rhythmic movement of the needles making a fabric. I dont like seams and weaving, but what I really dont like? Making button holes and having to line up the buttons so they look right and match up to where they need to be.

And congrats on getting a pattern in the calendar!! And its a sock too, my favorite thing!!

Congratulations on your pattern! It is beautiful! I absolutely hate having to seam pieces together. If I were better at it, I am sure I would feel differently. One of the many reasons I love knitting socks is the "NO SEAMING" necessary.

You create the most beautiful patterns, I really love them.

I really hate joining then knitting about the first five rounds of socks or anything in the round. It's just so awkward for me, and feels so unstable and wrong up to that point. Most socks I cast on and knit the first round, then decide it's all wrong and start over two or three or four times. It's so much more stable and comfortable to work after those first few rounds.

congratulations!! Aside from the already mentioned seaming, I hate when the first stitch on a pair of socks is a purl! Ladders you know!

Congrats on the pattern. It is a wonderful one. I agree with everyone that I do not like weaving in the ends. I also do not like knots in yarn. Guess knots would be at the top of the hate list.

Keep up the good work.

That's wonderful! CONGRATULATIONS!

I love everything about knitting except poorly written patterns.

I HATE the first several rows on DPNs and making ribbing of any sort.

Congrats on your pattern!!! My least fave thing is in the finishing category; fitting sleeves into sweater arm holes.

I actually don't mind finishing or weaving in ends. I'll have to say my least favorite thing about knitting is dealing with knots in the yarn, especially when making socks. If it's a self-patterning yarn, then the pattern is messed up, and I have to take out the knot and try to fix the pattern so the socks will match up. I'm really hung up on them matching!

I have the calendar and I love those socks...they are on my to-do-list, thanks and congratulations!

congratulations on being in the 2008 calendar -- nice looking socks (I can't wait to get the calendar! I got one for a friend for Christmas last year, and have been kicking myself that I didn't get one for me too!)

My least favorite thing about knitting is doing colourwork -- I hate intarsia! I make giant holes where the yarns join, or pull it too tight and get big ugly puckers! I avoid stranded knitting if I can ... but it is something I will have to master sometime or another (bugs the heck out of me that I can't do it!)

Congratulations! I'd be thrilled to get something published like that! You must be so pleased!

I'm currently working on my first pair of toefootsies socks, and I just love that yarn. My least favorite thing about knitting socks is knitting the second sock. *Sigh*. Must find more one-legged people to knit for . . .

Congrats on getting your pattern in the calender!

I, too, hate seaming. Weaving in ends isn't too bad unless there are oodles of them. The seaming is the worst. Blocking can be a pain, too, depending on the item being blocked.

Congratulations, way to go!!

Hmmm, thing I hate the most : not weaving in ends, b/c that means I'm finished! No, it'd have to be having mny, many wips on the go at once and feeling frustrated with myself for getting myself in this situation!

Congrats on having your pattern published in the calendar!!

My least favorite part of knitting socks and things is the part when, right after you cast on all those new stitches on your double pointed needle, you have to redistribute them around to all the needles. My second lest fav is actually knitting on the first row after casting on.

Congrats on getting published!

I used to hate kitchnering with the passion of a thousand burning suns, but have finally gotten the hang of it so that I no longer need to refer to the directions to do it each time.

Now, the two things I dislike the most are seaming and button bands. I don't mind picking up stitches for the bands, but getting the button holes evenly distributed? It is a pain.

My least favorite thing to do is to seam, and to knit sleeves. I have many sweaters in progress that just need a few more inches on the sleeves and to be seamed. Congratualtios!!!!

Jill L said...

Well for me is pattern altering. Ihave narrow feet and knit socks toe-up and so muchmath is involved when I knit scoks witha nything besides a stockinette pattern

monica said...

that was supposed to be Congratulations!

Karen said...

Congratulations! Yes, seaming is my least favorite thing too (that's why I avoid making sweaters). But I love the whole process of knitting socks!

Michele said...

Congrats, that sock is so pretty! I absolutely hate seaming. I have not been knitting long and my seaming skills suck. I guess if I tried to improve them I would not hat it so much.

Well, I hate to knit a 1x1 rib. I find it maddeningly slow! Fun contest.

Im having one too. You have to email me at harpnut@gmail.com. I'll send you my snail mail. Then you have until labor day to send me a postcard from anywhere, and you could win some fall Koigu.
